The creation of this book originated from An Art Museum In My Pocket – Lines, a collaborative project with the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
At the beginning of Lines, I took Tamsui Landscape (Tamsui) by Taiwanese senior painter Chen Cheng-po as a starting point, extending a sentiment of setting out from one’s homeland, exploring distant places in pursuit of dreams, and eventually returning home.
I chose two scenes in Taiwan—the Tamsui depicted by the senior painter and my hometown, Taichung—and printed them on the front and back of the paper using oil-based woodcut printing. This created a sense of reflection and dialogue. Through folding and bookbinding, the spaces were cut, rearranged, and recomposed, transforming into fragments and abstractions as the pages turn.
